The book contains papers on ethnogenesis and ethnic history of the peoples of the Baikal region in the Middle Ages. The authors consider the questions of correlation and historical account of medieval cultures, general and specific features in their development, mutual influence. On the base of historical and ethnographic material they research economic and cultural, social and political relations in South-Eastern Siberia with the peoples of neighboring territories of Siberia, the Far East and Central Asia. Much attention is paid to the study of language processes and interaction of ethnic groups.
