«The Tale-Admonition of Cagaan Dara-eke» («The Tale of Naranu Gerel»). Facsimile of manuscript. Research, transliteration, translation from Oirad, comments by A.G. Sazykin. – SPb.: IOS RAS, 2015. – 199 p.

The Visions of Hell literature describing a hero’s journeys to Hell is well known in different cultures all over the world. There are not a few such texts in the Old Mongolian literature of the 17th – early 20th centuries, as they were the popular reading on the vast territory where the Mongolian people settled. This issue presents a facsimile of a unique Oirat manuscript from the collection of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (St. Petersburg). It is a story of how the White Tara’s reincarnation Naranu Gerel descended to Hell. This and several other “hell-visions” stories were studied by A. G. Sazykin two of whose articles are republished here. They include two text transliterations and two Russian translations: the first – of the Oirat manuscript and the second – of a Mongolian one with a different version of the same story. Three translations into the Kalmyck language by B. A. Bicheev correspond to three different versions of the story.
