This monograph is the first attempt in the Buryat folkloristics to systematize the religious poetic texts and give them a semantic interpretation. The author has analyzed versification, poetic imagery, and sound structure of shamanic poetic texts from the standpoint of historical poetics. For explaining the contradictory trends in the motives of songs and understanding the variation principles of motifs and symbols in the folklore and ethnocultural discourse the author focused on deciphering the basic codes that are used in religious poetry. No doubt that shaman songs as a world view and a form of expression of folk creative spirit will always be an object of comprehensive research.
