На обширном полевом материале разработаны два блока вопросов: этногенез и этническая история племенных общностей баргут и хори, история их потомков старых баргутов и новых баргутов на северо-востоке Китая в период маньчжурского владычества; этническая культура двух баргутских групп Хулун-Буира.

The monograph is devoted to the Mongolian-speaking ethnic groups of Northeastern China – the Old Barguts (self-name – Barga) and New Barguts (self-name – Shine Barga), which are little-known and little-studied in modern science. It is the first generalizing ethnological work on the Barguts in Russian and foreign Mongolian studies. Based on vast field material, two blocks of issues have been developed: ethnogenesis and ethnic history of the Bargut and Khori tribal communities, the history of their descendants – Old Barguts and New Barguts – in Northeast China during the period of Manchu rule; ethnic culture of two Bargut groups of Hulun-Buir.
